Educating both the general
public and private sector investors
on the → opportunity in offshore wind.
The Challenge
Turn Forward is a small non-profit with big ambitions, to advance American wind power and build momentum for policies and projects that significantly expand wind energy.
A huge part of that is the need to educate investors, public sector leaders and the general public about the state of offshore wind in the US. Turn Forward turned to Forward to concept, plan and execute an awareness building tool that would do just that.

FWD Thinking in Action
Keep it clean.
We worked with Turn Forward to create a compelling data visualization tool that would simply but meaningfully engage audiences and demonstrate the impact the organization is making, without putting a resource burden on the small team.
ABOUT THE WORK
Clean data, clean energy
We took data that Turn Forward had hidden away in spreadsheets, and transformed it into compelling, understandable, public facing visualizations across an interactive website.
Collective effort
All levels of the government–federal, state, and local–work to advance America’s renewable energy future. The asset was designed to reflect this collective effort, while allowing any user to drill down further.
Visualize progress
Bringing together project data into a US-wide map allowed us to show stakeholders, at a glance, how limited progress is so far.
Explore projects
Each project, however, can be further investigated, with the user able to explore state by state energy goals, areas of opportunity, and more. For our private sector audiences, there’s information on existing projects, contract status and production. For more casual viewers, we included fun facts and clear figures to make the information more accessible.
Energy, well spent
We needed to ensure that the Turn Forward team wouldn’t have to spend valuable time and energy on updates, so we built a backend that automatically updates the site whenever their internal project trackers are available.
